Time to Throw Out My Mascara

Alissa and I came up with this program to help people realize when it is time to throw away old make-up. The thing is, I realize that changing human habits and behavior is so hard on many levels. For instance, I know it is time to throw out my tube of Christian Dior Show. I know this because the label says it has been three months since I first opened it, and also because this particular product gets a little goopy when it is time, which is good because it helps me do the right thing. But, there is so much stuff left in there! And it looks so new! It is not about the fact that I don’t have anything to replace it with, I am just having trouble actually throwing the beautiful, shiny, favorite product away until it is ALL GONE. But that would mean gross, old mascara around my eyes, and studies show (www.pubmed.com) that after only three months the levels of staph and fungus and one other yucky culprit I cannot remember will be at 33%. So…I have lined up all my new mascaras. There are quite a few. I got a Dior Show gift set from a friend, she picked it up for me when we were in Hollywood at the Sephora there. I also have a Jane Iredale, a Dior Show “Iconic”, and a Giorgio Armani “Eyes To Kill”. I like the last one. I think I will do the dumping now and use the “Eyes to Kill” next. OK, I am throwing away my three month old mascara tube…let’s do it together…on the count of three…one, two, three. Right in the trash can.

One Response to Time to Throw Out My Mascara

I promised myself I would never again risk Quasimodo-eye from using old mascara and eye shadow. Three times … you’d think I would have learned my lesson sooner. Now I can’t even make myself use old makeup anymore. I love the Beauty Alert! stickers because my life is too busy to remember when I got what. I need to be busy changing the world, not worrying about my makeup. WWQD?
