I love Today.com! This is one of the most compelling articles yet on why we should toss out old cosmetics. Actors, Throw Out That 20 Year Old Ben Nye

Why do so many actors have their stage make-up from 20 years back? I just hooked up with my college teacher on Facebook, Gail Holbrook. She taught acting, directed shows, but for me she will always be my stage make-up teacher. I ended up being paid to be a make-up artist for the theater, dance and opera department, so I was well acquainted with the stash of Ben Nye and Max Factor. Well, it turns out Gail is retiring, and we she found out about Beauty Alert! she confided in me that when she went to clean out the make-up room, it was loaded with old, spooky, gross foundations, shadows, rouges…things that should have been tossed years prior. Like maybe 20 years prior…

As a reformed hoarder of cosmetics, lotions and potions, a part of me gets it. You are on a budget, and feel wasteful. A part of the thought is it will be useful “someday” and you will regret tossing it. Especially theater artists, who often don’t make a lot of money. if you could only see the bacteria breeding in those petri dishes you call foundation #3.

Beauty Alert! was featured on the Wendy Williams show last week, on an episode dealing with overloaded, old and gross make-up bags. The crowd went wild when Wendy held up our product and said it was cute! Corporate coach to the stars, Anna Boynton

I love it that Beauty Alert! got written up (“Beauty Alert Stickers Are a Lifesaver!”) on a blog called Got The Knack! What a great name. Check out this blog, she has a great look.

Tonight, I celebrated with fellow aquarius folks at a great new bar called Flow. They need a better French red wine by the glass, but besides that, pretty great! Beauty Alert! and Boyntunes celebrated our new ventures. My friends Anna and Ken Boynton have a corporate coaching business. I am encouraging them to branch off into helping with etiquette issues. There is so much for Ken and Anna to do!

This is a photograph of my father’s ex-wife. She was an actress in New York, and this is a picture that was taken at a photo shoot for an audition. It was a test to see who would be the print model for a large cosmetics company. I don’t think she got the job, but my father kept this picture of his ex-wife in his wallet his whole life. Her stage name was Alix Taran, and she was married to my father Richard Riley Shepard back in the late 1940′s. I had this photo restored for him by Panda Lab as a gift a few years ago. She passed away a year or so after that. He passed away in November, 2009. They never spoke after they separated in 1952, but I am glad I have this photograph. I think it was for an Elizabeth Arden ad.
