I heard once that Americans don’t like words they can’t pronounce. Whether it be personal names or business names, keep away from anything that isn’t easy to say or spell. Uh oh. My name is Stacya, pronounced Sta-sha. And this company I like Odacite…..I am not sure how to pronounce it, yet anyway. The company president has this terrific French accent, and I am ashamed to ask him how to say it at this point! I will ask one of my French friends.
Odacite is a fresh skin care company that makes creams and cleansers in small batches, and with no preservatives. It is a perfect reason to download the new Beauty Alert! app which can remind you when you should toss out your expired product and get a fresh replacement. It takes me about 2 months to go through a 1.7 ounce jar of cream, so this company should be perfect for me!

I have a beautiful sample kit of the Gentle Rejuvenating Cleanser, Refreshing Toner Mist, Night Time Repair Serum, Day Moisturizer, Deep Hydrating Mask, Jojoba Beads Exfoliant, and their Ultra-Effective Eye Cream. It came with printed cards that list the ingredients, which have no parabens, petrochemicals or fragrances. The beauty part is, they stamp a “fresh date” or what they call a Freshiency System (trademark…yay!) so that customers know these products haven’t been sitting around in some warehouse for months or years. I am on my 2nd day of using my little, elegant sample kit. Tonight I will do the mask! So far, I like it very much. I will write again when the week is over.

I just need to get this out. I went into Saks Fifth Ave in New York to find my Bobbi Brown lipstick, and instead I was caught in the web of a very aggressive sales lady who was trying to sell me skin care. I realized the only way I was getting away from her was to buy something, so I offered to buy a lipstick from her. So I ended up buying a lipstick in a good color, but from a company (shall remain nameless) I was unfamiliar with. Now I have it, a $35.00 lipstick…and it dries out my lips and tastes terrible. Sad. I won’t even put a Beauty Alert! label on it, because it isn’t label worthy. Also, I have this feeling that Saks Fifth Avenue doesn’t even carry Bobbi Brown, but I after my encounter at the counter, I wanted to flee.

Once, I had the bright idea to leave my sunscreen in my car, so I could reapply when needed. One warm day, I pumped out a little of the lotion with SPF, and it was lumpy and curdled. I didn’t even know a lotion could do that. It was a new, 6 ounce tube, and I felt very wasteful. Store your products in a cool, dry place.

If something smells or separates, toss it. Bacteria loves warmth, humidity, and liquid, so your products are a very good breeding ground for things to go very wrong.

I got an email the other day from a friend who needed advice on how to help her mother with her eyeliner. Her mom wears an eyeliner that ends up all under her eyes. This has been going on for a while now, but…how to bring it up in a way that promotes change, but doesn’t hurt feellings? Many of my clients have this challenge with friends who over-tweeze their brows. The eyebrows become so thin or evolve into a shape not found in nature, what to say? Or just as bad, brow powder or pencil that is too heavy or too dark. I think the best practice is gentle honesty, followed by a gift. I told my friend to give her mom Bobbie Brown’s waterproof liquid eyeliner in Caviar. Any sting from the honesty will be soothed with the kick ass gift.

This is a photograph of my father’s ex-wife. She was an actress in New York, and this is a picture that was taken at a photo shoot for an audition. It was a test to see who would be the print model for a large cosmetics company. I don’t think she got the job, but my father kept this picture of his ex-wife in his wallet his whole life. Her stage name was Alix Taran, and she was married to my father Richard Riley Shepard back in the late 1940′s. I had this photo restored for him by Panda Lab as a gift a few years ago. She passed away a year or so after that. He passed away in November, 2009. They never spoke after they separated in 1952, but I am glad I have this photograph. I think it was for an Elizabeth Arden ad.
