I just got my visa bill from my trip to Paris. Ouch! It hurts me. I did buy one pair of shoes that ended up being pretty spendy. But I must remember we had our turn, back in the day, when the dollar was stronger.

I did something a little silly, I got a Chanel lipstick (#68) because I wanted to go into the Chanel store, and I realize I could have purchased that here. Probably would have been a lot less with the Euro what it is, and tax there. Well, there is something to be said for paying a tad extra for an experience!

My client is taking a trip around the world, and my friend, who is Russian, gave her these tips on her trip to the great cities there:

“I am happy to help and a little envy that you are going to visit one of the most beautiful cities in the world. First of all and by all means the Hermitage – the largest museum of the world is definitely a must. You can actually spend all the time you plan to be in St. Petersburg there. Its really amazing to see this broad collection of art in one place. But since it is almost impossible to get all of it at one visit, I would recommend to go directly to the arts you like or want to see.

Then there is a Russian Museum, which is not as huge but definitely as beautiful and important. Repin’s and Vrubel’s works are my favorite.

The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood – The Church contains over 7500 square metres of mosaics—according to its restorers, more than any other church in the world.
If you like theater, The Mariinsky Theatre is, I believe, one of the most important theaters of opera and ballet in Russia. (http://www.mariinsky.ru/en)

The Kunstkamera was the first museum in Russia. Established by Peter the Great and completed in 1727, the Kunstkammer Building hosts the Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography, with a collection of almost 2,000,000 items. There is a beautiful and delicious pie restaurant right there in the center of the city. Here is their web site. I have never tasted more delicious pies in my life!

If you plan to go during May or summer, you should watch the draw bridges – its amazing and they have night tours for that. Also recommend a tour on a small tourist boat along the canals.

If you stay longer, you should take a tour to Petergof, a series of palaces and gardens. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peterhof_Palace

Again, envy you, but my husband and I are going to visit it soon, too!
